didn't i read somewhere that the 5900 series is a dual-die-GPU and that's why it's testing so high?

yeah it's 2 downclocked 5870 chips on one card so there are 3200 shaders (1600 per chip). unless it's overclocked to 5870 speeds, 5870 crossfire is faster. 5850 crossfire is nearly the same performance as a 5970... probably within 3-5%ish.

you also can't disable crossfire on an x2 card like that. I'm not sure what the FF14 test does exactly then since it runs in a window, but I think one chip just never kicks up to full speeds and stays at 157/300mhz (2d clocks).
pretty sure i'm wrong on that but don't feel like looking it up

i like the one dude's comment, which is so true:

" few months from now the new generation of GPU will come and this card would be on the same performance level as new mainstream one."

it's so true

Hmm... so do you think it was worth it?  I mean, that review was all in SLI and that looked yummy..

I have $140 in rebate cash cards, but most sites dont accept multiple forms of payment.  and I've made a pledge that since I only "occasionally" play UT3 anymore (doc's been playing again..he has like 30 ping from Colorado...its weird being able to actually see him move without blipping all over the screen).. and i started playing mass effect 2.. but unless something in my case burns out, i'm not going to put any more money in to it.  Just can't afford it anymore. :'(  my gtx280 can handle most of what's out there now anyways.  crap i gtg, im late for recitation..lata

though 2 460's in sli water cooled would be a fun time..

well it seems like when I'm running something that doesn't have any DX11 benefits it's a little slower than my 4870... but when i crank things past that the 460 doesn't sweat it. I just got this card in this morning and haven't done much with it yet.

I think if you got a pair of 1gb 460s in SLI it'd be worth it, but I wouldn't expect 768 to hold there place for too long. I wouldn't of got this card if it weren't for that pricing error on the site (they actually say it was a sale but... why would an sc2 trial make the card $60 less? if anyone wants the trial just ask and ye shall receive)

If you don't care about missing out on DX11 features in a few games or don't care much for benchmarks then it's not really worth it. that 280 still isn't slow by any means nor do I see it being so for awhile.

I haven't seen any 460 blocks or aftermarket coolers yet. the chip is rectangle rather than square so I don't think any existing coolers will fit. it's pretty strange looking...

at 880mhz I hit 65*C. there is only one 460 I think that warrants water cooling since it's probably the only one that can actually take advantage of it

http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-460-hawk-review/

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127518&Tpk=msi%20460%20hawk

it says in the specs its capable of hitting 1Ghz, but not with the stock cooler. I imagine it's no prob on water... and at that point it seems like it'd be as fast as a GTX 480
on the last page of that guru 3d review he's just 500 3dmarks shy of the 480 score
http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-geforce-gtx-460-hawk-review/20

that's fucking nuts that a $250 card is capable of that

I think it''d be worth getting some 1GB 460s in SLI (preferebly dem hawks)

also, the card is fucking small

460 waterblock, nozzles extra.

the only thing i can think of that i want to change in my computer is that i still have the original 320gb harddrive as a tertiary drive (where i store my music and movies) which i installed in 2005.. it's probably nearing the end of it's life, so if i keep seeing 1TB drives for like $50-70 i might transfer everything and do that.. other than that, im poor :'(

Newegg will likely allow this if you call it in... TigerDirect definitely will if Newegg won't.

ff14 is super intensive for some reason, I got fine frames in closed beta but now in open they've dropped.

poorly optimized =/

looks like nvidia is going to keep the ball rolling on the price cuts

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/faith/nvidia-drops-the-price-of-gtx460-another-20/

the 'rumored' prices on the gts 450 were around $170 - now the gtx 460 should drop to around that price

so i'd expect 450 to be cheaper as well...

there was a deal at frys for 470s @ $250 this past week

video card prices look like they are going back to what they should be at

seems like amd hasn't been doing shit lately, other than killing the ati name.

least that's the only thing i've read about. 5xxx series cards have dropped in price a little bit but not enough.

it's like they're reading this post.. they know i can't afford anything new, so they just keep doing things to tempt me.  bastards..  i tell ya though, now that my x-fi sound card is fried (i guess), the 460's in SLI is sounding better and better..although i'd have to +(2*109) for waterblocks for them
